Pedal Pumping Tips for Mountain Biking

I have taken off my chain to demonstrate the beauty of knowing how to pick up momentum from the terrain that you are presented with. People call it pumping which means that you are finding the back side, finding the transition in every aspect of the trail, and making speed with it. So chain on my bike, starting here on the slight incline I'm going to make it up that hill with out pedaling. So I take off and just, I have manage to make it all the way of cross this flat section of trail and almost off that trail with no chain. By finding the down slope in the section of the trial and really driving my wheel into it. So not only does that help me generate speed it also helps me maintain control. So in times when I am turning or braking is when I'm driving my bike into the ground. Just really forcefully driving it into the ground to create traction. So there are times that you know that I have to brake traction to keep going quick. We would talk about that in a little bit. But the more you mountain bike the more you look at the trail that you are presented with, with a very critical eye. You see every small adulation there is a hole in the ground here before it goes down. So you want to get over the hole in the ground or push your bike through it, then I weight and get over the back side. So instead of just running into everything you can ride lightly on the bike except when it is going to create speed by pushing down. So as I start again to pump through this section you would notice a lot to he exaggerate movements that I make with my upper body and my hips. So what I have done here you see it, it is dropping the chest down, dropping the knees down, and dropping the hips down when I had some back side and picking up the bike and actively unweighted it when it is going to be slowed down. So like around this corner I do a little bit of a slide with my tire and also pick up the bike and put it down forcefully on the ground so that's the basic concept behind pumping terrain.
