Garbage to Recycle in an Eco Friendly Home

Ok Anne you tell me to read my recycling bin but I am still confused I don't know, should I recycle this or not? because typically I would. we all want to do the right thing, I think thats the important thing is that we are all trying to make a difference and we know that certain items are recyclable like this is an aseptic package, and it can be recycled, but it may not be able to be recycled in my local program. There are alot of factors that determine whether community can or can not recycle certain items, so thats why it is really important to check what is acceptable because you may or may not be using items that can be recycled in your program. So for example with this one, based on what is on your list, you wouldn't include this in your container. So this just goes in your regular trash? You could put it ina trash can or you can set it aside, and try and find out thru our website if there are other places, maybe a store or a recycling company that would accept this for recycling. So don't despair there might be a second option available to you. What about this item? Same thing? For the milk carton , generally that would be for the same thing. So allright everything I have compiled lets see, how about this? recyclable? We say when in doubt throw it out, so we aren't exactly sure its not a steel can. I think I have a winner here, yeah your program based on your bin says that you can accept bottles, plastic bottles 1 and 2. We looked for the recycling arrows on the bottom and its a number 1, so you can put it in your bin, but remember with plastic bottles generally, but your lid is a different type of plastic, so lids are generally thrown away, and your bottle can be recycled. How about something like this? It doesn't have any type of determination as far as what kind of plastic it is, so when in doubt, throw it out. Allright. And for those people that just throw everything away in here, you were mentioning thats actually counter productive cause then, it costs your local recycling company money to sort thru the materials, so if there is alot of contaniments or items that shouldn't be in there, they physically take those out, and it does cost money. So , you are really costing your community more and it creates alot of problems in the long run. So it is better to keep it out, to change perhaps your purchasing habits so that your are buying things made in packaging that can be recycled as part of your program. We all want to do the right thing, and unfortunately, with some of the recycling you have to go to.. or do an extra step to find other sources to recycle different items. But, it is all worthwhile, we all live on one planet so we all need to try and do the right thing.
