Double Tonguing Technique for Playing the Trumpet

Trumpet players and other wood wind players might also need to use double tonguing and that’s a method used for fast tonguing passages. I like to use these syllables for double tonguing, ‘DuhGa’. I say ‘duh’ with the tip of the tongue and ‘ga’ in the back of the tongue and it translate to this type of sound. When you’re practicing double tonguing, it’s important to get each part of the double tongue sounding the same. So if you’re going to…I would start off with a single tonguing exercise, and then I would reverse that and say ‘Ga-ga-ga-ga-ga-ga’. Then you put them together so it’s nice and slow, and then you will then speed it up.
