So Anne, you were telling me about the three R's, the three things people should remember as they are going out shopping. Yes it's called the Waste Hierarchy basically. They are Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. You reduce your waste from your source, you buy only what you need, you reuse if at anytime something has a second way it can be used you do that and then you recycle. If that product has extended its life and it cannot be used anymore you have the option after that, it's basically land filling. So you have to throw it away in the garbage. Okay, so Anne I was reading on Earth 911 website that we should turn off electronics around the house. So when should we turn off our computers for example? Well if you're not going to be at your computer for say 20 minutes or even longer you should consider turning off your monitor. If you're going to be away from your computer for over 2 hours I would consider turning off both the monitor and the computer itself so even if it's overnight or you go away for a couple of days please do that. There are a lot of appliances that use electricity even when they are plugged in but they are off. And so you want to be aware of those what we call Vampire appliances. Like cell phone chargers. Right they are on? But they are not even doing anything. So you want to be able to go around your house and unplug a few things that you aren't using. So even though it is not on it is still using up energy. I didn't know that. Yes, certain ones are. So you have to go around and do a scan and determine which ones are functioning and using electricity and which ones are just sitting there dormant and are plugged into the wall using electricity. You can save a lot of energy by doing that and only plugging them in when you are using them. Great I'm going to do that tonight.
