History on Grapes Used For Making Wine

I’m Terry Thomas. I’m here on ExpertVillage.com to bring you a little about the appreciation of wine. Generally wine is put in two categories basically a red and a white. And through the years while many of these grapes have found distinction and produced excellent, excellent wines and we call them our classic grapes, they’ve achieved such good quality, they’ve formed so well. Really these pretty much the wines that we’re drinking today came from a certain class that was evident in Europe and the Romans actually spread vines all over Europe and probably even determined a lot of the ideal places to plant the grapes. So again the Romans probably laid the ground work for a lot of the vineyards and the types of grapes that we know today. America had its – they’ve always had grapes and they have a different type of group of grapes and they were just – America was actually covered in vines for I guess centuries and early explorers made notes of this. And they still have and do a good job with the vines but over time while these vineyards and our indigenous American grapes have gotten a very prominent place but again the European varieties have made some end roads and have probably taken the fore front in many of the table wines.
