Hi! This is Shana Bethune on behalf of Expert Village and I am going to talk to you about recording clean tracks. There are so many different effects out there and it is tempting to use them as you reverb. Sometimes this works but it is better to record a clean signal so you have more choices later on when you do the final mix. Remember you can always add effects afterwards. Of course, you might want the sound of a certain room like a bathroom with great acoustics. If that is what you want go ahead and do it but also record a clean version of the track so that you have two options. s When you are recording, it is not exciting to hear a clean track especially with vocals and heavy guitars. Sometimes this affects the quality of the performance. If that is the case, put some of your computer effects into the next for your performers. A little reverb might put the vocalist at ease or give your guitarist a little distortion in the minor mix. It is really the same thing. As long as it is not part of the chain that goes from the mic to the computer, you will have a clean signal. Just make sure that the track that you are recording is clean so you can clean it up later exactly as you want to.
