Hi! This is Shana Bethune on behalf of Expert Village and I am going to talk to you about doing a tape recorder demo. Before you start recording, you need to figure out exactly what it is you want to record. A song may sound perfect when it is in your head or done at rehearsal but when it is finished, you might find things that you want to change. It is difficult to make changes once you have started the recording. So it is good to work out changes right at the beginning. A simple tape recorder is a useful way for testing out your song. Don't worry about the quality of your recording just focus on whether or not the song sounds finished to you. If you want to add another verse or lengthen the solo, now is the time to make that decision. Once you have tracks down in the studio, going back and changing something is very difficult so use the tape recorder until you have the rough sketch that seems right. Then you know you are ready to record for real. You will be much more confident and you won't have to worry about re-writing your songs in the middle of the session.
