How To Record Music In A Home Closet

Hi! This is Shana Bethune on behalf of Expert Village and I am going to talk to you about how to turn a closet in a recording booth. In order to get dead space when you are recording and to get a pure sound, you have to cut out any other noises. The closet is the perfect place to do recordings because there is no echo inside. Preparing a closet can be difficult though because you have to make it something that people actually find comfortable. I mean does this look very comfortable to you? Would you be happy to sing in here for an hour? Do whatever you can to make sure there is enough space in the closet. The first thing you want to do is get all the clothing out. The important thing is that you can fit a chair inside the closet so that someone can sit. Make sure there is enough room for your mic stand and then bring clothes back in to muffle the sound. And again this might not be very comfortable but you can have the same effect as the sound booth for free. If you feel up to it, you can always throw blankets on the wall to muffle the sound and remember because it is a small closet it can get hot so it doesn't hurt to have a small fan around that you can turn on in between tapes. The important that thing is that there is room for someone to sit and for the mic. It takes a little extra time to set up a closet for recording space but it will be worth it because it will sound much better later. If you can't afford an isolation booth which no home studio really can, a closet is your best option.
