Hi, I'm Michael Lamendola with expertvillage.com and today we're going to shoot some pool. Alright, my buddy Jeff is here and we're going to play some Eight Ball. But, first we have to decide a couple of things. Now first off, we can play Eight Ball one of two ways. We can play it where we call all of our shots, or we can play trash. Now, calling our shots means, after the break, whatever ball I intend to make, I have to announce. And I do so in the same way about all of those shots I mentioned earlier. So, if I'm making the six ball in the corner pocket, I would call six ball in the corner pocket. If it was something more intricate like a combination, nine fifteen in the side, I would call it. If you're playing call your shots and you make a ball on accident, otherwise known as trash, you forfeit your turn and it goes to the next person. However, if you're calling your shots and you make your shots, you keep going until you miss. And that's one way. Now, when you're playing trash, which is a great way for beginners to learn how to play, whatever ball you make, as long as it's not the eight ball or your opponent's, you get to keep shooting. So, Jeff, do you want to play trash or call your shots? (Let's call our shots.) Call our shots. Alright, well, we lagged earlier and Jeff won the lag, so he's going to go break. Now, remember that little etiquette rule I told you about earlier, not to stand in front of your opponent while he's shooting? It really makes sense here. Have you ever seen on America's Funniest Home Videos or on the web where someone breaks and the ball jumps up and hits them in a very unpleasant area? That's why I'm moving right now. So, Jeff broke show them what you made Jeff. During the break, Jeff made the one ball. That means that he's solids. That means that I'm stripes. And because he made a ball during the break, he gets to keep shooting. So, let's see what Jeff does next. So, what Jeff is doing now, is he's thinking about all of his options. Something you want to do when it's your first shot of the game is you want to think about all of your options. Because he may have an easy shot, but it may be better for him to take the harder shot to set up a couple of shots down the road. Right now, Jeff is pretty tough because, unfortunately, he doesn't have a lot of shots. Like, what I see is the five ball in the side pocket. So, what happened is, Jeff missed his shot and now it's my turn. And because he's solids, now I look at my options and start shooting stripes. So, when I'm surveying the table, what I'm seeing is that I have an easy shot of the fifteen. However, if I shoot down here, I've got the twelve ball, Q ball ends up here, in a perfect world, by the way then I shoot the fourteen, then I shoot the thirteen, follow it out, then I might have the ten down there, and so on and so forth. So, if there's a piece of strategy that I can impart on you, before you take the easy shot, check out all of your options.
