Moves in Irish Step Dancing

On behalf of Expert Village my name is Niall O'Leary from the Niall O'Leary School of Irish Dance in New York City and today I'm demonstrating beginner soft shoe Irish dance. For a beginner Irish step dance we are going to do soft shoe and there is 4 basic moves that you need to know. The first one is a step a step is where you put 1 foot on the floor and at the same time take the other foot away. Where have you heard that before? It is like walking except of course your walking on your toes. The next move is a move called a hop for a hop your pushing off the floor. Let's say I'm going to hop on my right foot I'm pushing off the floor and I'm landing on the same foot. So that is a hop and a leap is where I push off the floor and land on my other foot. A jump is where I push off the floor and land on both feet. So there you have it step, hop, leap, and jump.
