How to Table Train Show Dogs
Hi this is Elise with Expert Village.com and in this short video clip we are going to be talking about the use of a table for dogs and dog shows. If you have a coated breed like we have right here it is very important that your dog is comfortable with being on and being worked on a table like this. Now if you have a small breed dog you can just pick that dog up and put him on the table. What we need to do with a bigger breed is have him learn how to jump up on the table. Some dogs will jump right up on the table and some will put their front feet up and you help the rest of the way. Tai, can you hop up? Tai is choosing the lazy man’s way. This way. Once the dog is on the table you want to give him cookies and treats to make them feel comfortable and relaxed being on the table. If you are starting this with a young dog, you are going to be much better off. If you get your dog at 8 weeks, you want to start having him on the table regularly every day for just a couple of minutes. What a good boy. You want to get them used to doing different things on the table and not just lying down, but sit. This way. Tai. Sit. Yes. Stand. Yes, Down So all of the obedience commands you have worked on on the floor you want to have your dog do them on the table as well. You are a good dog.
