Hi I’m Chris Van Londen and on behalf of Expert Village I’m going to be talking about high altitude hiking. We’ll be hiking in all types of different climate, you’ll be walking and hiking, and sometime it will be cloudy and it may rain. Some times it will be hot and dry. If you’re up in high elevation it’s even more challenging, in that it could be very hot, but your body also has to acclimate to the high altitude and so you’ll be perspiring more, your body will be working harder. So in that type of an atmosphere and that type of a climate, it’s important to be prepared. And the way you prepared is by drinking lots of water and pacing yourself, pacing is very important. You don’t want to rush up too quickly because you’ll tire out; you need to go short distances and break, short distances and break. It’s the best way to get acclimated to high altitudes. So if you try to do it too hard, when you’re feeling good in the morning you want to work hard and get up there, but if you do it too hard, you may exhaust yourself before you get to the point that you want to get to. So pace yourself.
