Dog Grooming Supplies & Tips
Hi this is Elise from Expert Village.com and in this short video clip we are going to be talking about some of the grooming supplies that you need when you are going to be working with a dog and preparing him for a show. This is a typical soft sided grooming bag which we can toss all the stuff we are going to need. The first thing you want to think about is you want to have your ears, your nails and teeth very clean and well prepared for the show. So we have our nail clippers in here and we’ve got ear powder to remove any excess hair and ear cleaner as well as cotton balls. Also, in the bag we have a towel if you have a hairy beard you can dry the beard off with it. So, you always want to have some sort of a towel or drying device in your bag with you. Then we move on to the brushes, I suggest getting yourself some good sturdy brushes that are comfortable in your hands that will hold up over time. This is a nice set of brushes. As you see, I like this brand very much and I have a wide variety of brushes that I can use depending on the circumstances that I am going to be brushing in. This is a great small brush that can fit into your pocket when you are going into the show ring if you need to bring your brush into the show ring. These are great grooming tools. This is a nice small brush for getting in between the toes and I will show you how to do that in a later video. Another good brush type is to get out long hair from mats and another brush type here. You might want to try exploring a little bit using different brushes to see what feels comfortable, what will last and what works best for your dog. This is called a grooming rake and this is really good for coated breeds. It just pulls the undercoat right out, has rotating blades and pulls it right out without pulling. Also in the grooming bag, I have a couple of different supplies here which consists of a comb, this is again very handy with a long hair coated breed, make sure you have all the mats out. I’ve got a couple of different scissor types here for trimming for feet. As well here in the back, I have a tool here that will actually take out some of the undercoat in a coated breed. So you can see there are a large number of items that you need to collect when you are going to be working with your dog. Not related to grooming but something you might want to consider having in your grooming bag is something you can work with your dog in the ring that is going to get your dog’s attention. These also can be stuck right in your pocket. They are great handy dandy things that you just pop right into your grooming bag and you always have them. In the next video we are going to talking about how to use some of these tools on your dog.
