Train a Show Dog to do Down & Back
Hi, this is Elise from Expert Village.com and in this short video clip we are going to be talking about one of the exercises you might be asked to do by a judge in the confirmation show ring. We are going to be going over the down and back. So we have our dog that is always on our left. Again, the judges are always judging the dog from the dog’s left hand side. When we are asked to a down and back by a judge, what the judges ask us to do is typically go in a diagonal. So what we are going to do if the judge would be here or here or behind us and we are going to be working on a diagonal and coming back the same spot. We are going to imagine if the judge is standing here behind us and so we would like when we come back from the down and back to sit that dog up and look his best for the judge. All right, ready Tai, let’s go. And around, let’s go. You want to keep an eye on the judge and wait. Set your dog up, get him to use his ears, keep an eye on the judge and keep your eye on the dog.. Okay, then release your dog and praise him and reward him for good performance.
