How to Pack a Backpack for a Hiking Trip

Hi, I’m Chris Van Londen on behalf of Expert Village.com. I will be talking about packing your backpack. I’m going to load this gear up. I tried to put the things I am not going to use right away so I don’t anticipate using. I don’t anticipate using my jacket. So I put that on the bottom. Then this. I like to have my windbreaker handy. My legs. So that fills up my backpack quite a bit. Food on top for easy reach, sun block; I probably will apply again at some point. My hat and my gloves; probably not going to use those for a while so try to stuff them a little bit on the side. There is a little knick knacks in here I like to keep handy. Especially my keys. I want to know where my keys are because the last thing I want to do is lose my keys on the trail. So we will keep that handy. Now if I take a book of course I am going to keep it up where it is easily reachable. Today I will put it right here. It’s a tight fit but that is all right. I will take my map. Again, I don’t always take the book depending on how much gear I have. Don’t forget your sunglasses; keep them handy in your pocket. Water is most important. Extra water never hurts so pack the water on the side for easy access. There we go and there’s my other water. While some people take iodine pills for water to kill the bacteria. Some people take water filters. I don’t take those. I generally just carry the water with me. However, if I am backpacking I do take a water filter. Generally on day trips it is just plain water; it’s just fine. Okay, can’t forget our first aid kit, put it on top.
