How to Position Hands & Arms to Play the Piano
Hi I'm Tony Newton for Expert Village and we are going to explore our hand and arm position for playing the piano. Okay now first we would deal with the hand position so the hand position if you are playing chords you want to keep your fingers rounded. You do not want to play like flat finger and you just want to raise your wrist so that your fingers are rounded and you are able to spike each key and you do that with both hands cause some people have problems with each of there hands work different. So this would be the left hand like if we play a chord a basic C chord that you can see my fingers are rounded and we will play with this one. So if we played, see if my fingers are still rounded. Now you see my arms are not out here they are actually mid way so a good way to check yourself is put your fingers on the keyboard and flap your arms like a bird but then fly in a middle position of your elbows to your body. Not close to your body but half way out just naturally and keep your arms up not down like this and keep them up and then you would have perfect motion to play any chord you can play any chords this way. Let's see let's see. So remember your hand and arm position so it is very important as you see as we go along in using them in expression.
