DIY Home Security Tips

On behalf of expertvillage.com, I'm Jim Koch and today we are going to be talking about home security. A simple measures you can take to keep the guy that has the rock and the crowbar from getting into your house. Another thing you can do and I strongly recommend and it is actually a service that I provide and some locksmiths do is an engraver. You can go through an engrave your name or a number that you pick and you preferably not anything like a phone number or your social security number because you definitely don't want a thief to get that. But in the event a thief does get in your house and start to take your things, you can engrave your serial number on the bottom of cameras, TV, your VCR. By doing that then when the thief does get caught and report it to the police, you've got proof that that was your item because you've got that number recorded. Generally it is a good idea to take a random number, write it down so that you know what the number is and maybe even make a log of all the things that you put that number on so that you know if he does steal your stuff you cfan go through and give the police a list of the things stolen.
