How to Light Home to Prevent Theft

On behalf of expertvillage.com, I am Jim Koch and today we are going to be talking about home security and a few simple measures we can take to keep the guy that has the rock and the crow bar from getting into your house the lack of lighting. A dark corner and a dark yard is an invitation for a thief because he knows he can work around there for a good period of time and no one is going to see him. There are a million different choices for economical lighting. You get lights like this. They are plug in. A real little simple spot light. You can plug in and point into a dark corner that makes all the difference in the world. There is also the Malibu style lighting. These lights are really nice. They are solared power and self contained. They require no wiring, they are solar panel. They come on at dark and go off at dawn. You place a few of these around your yard, makes a huge difference, it increases your property value and makes your house look a little nicer too. Here's another great thing. This is something unless you are a pretty good handyman, you are going to have to have an electrician install but this is a motion sensor light. This light will stay off during the day, so it saves energy and it also stays off until someone walks past it. This is a great system to incorporate with a security camera because sometimes the security camera will be a little dark, you won't be able to see real good. If somebody walks past your garage door, through your yard or wherever you have one placed, the light is going to come on, you are going to see them in the camera and you know that you got someone prowling around. Another thing is too when this light comes on they are generally up to no good and they take off running.
