Hi this is Aaron Fruitstone from Chi Martial Arts in Miami Shores. You can reach us on the web at www.chimartialarts.com. The next technique that you’ll be learning in advanced Tae Kwon Do is a side checking kick followed by a hook kick. The premise of this kick is that you’re going to leave your leg out to check your opponent’s leg and make it difficult for them to throw any kind of kicks with the front foot. It takes a lot of body motion for them to rotate with the back leg. So you’re going to extend your front leg out, the body is sideways, from this position to initiate the kick, you’re going to cock the knee back towards you, rotate your hips and snap your heel towards your opponent, using the heel as your striking surface. Again, you’re checking-rotate-heel and hook. At normal speed. By going low you initiate that leg response, hands come down, that hook kick then comes high slicing across.
