Hi my name is Barry Osser from North Coast Role Playing in Eureka, California and I’m here today to talk to you about the basic character types in the Dungeon and Dragons role playing game. In Dungeons and Dragons, there are 4 main types, the 1st one is the fighter, the 2nd one is the wizard, the 3rd is the cleric and the 4th is the thief or now it is termed rogue. The fighter character is the character that is going to take the brunt of the damage, this is the character that’s going to be out front in the party, its normally going to take its sword, axe, shield, whatever it is and go hold the creatures off while the person who is next in line which is your wizard does his work. The wizard tends to be the character that is throwing high powered but limited access things, such as a fireball, an ice bolt, a lightning bolt. The character tends to be lightly armored as opposed to the fighter fairly heavily armored and tends to use smaller weapons when they need to such as a staff or a knife or a dagger because they’re spending all of their time carrying around a tomb so they can throw these great magic spells at you. They cause a lot of damage, but they don’t work very often because magic user needs the time to actually pull the power to cast them. Your cleric which is you 3rd one in line, tends to be your healer, this is the running ambulance, this is the character that has the ability to come over and heal minor wounds, minor cuts, doesn’t necessarily always have the ability to connect an arm, a leg, a head, but on most cases has the ability to fix something up. the character also tends to have a lot of blunt weapons for whatever reason the choice was to make it so that clerics did not use edged weapons, but they can bash peoples heads in as long as the blood doesn’t come out I guess is the idea. Your 4th and final class tends to be the catch all class, this has now been termed the rogue, it used to be in older times called the thief and the rogue character is kind of your specialist. This is the guy who can do a little bit of everything, he can open locks, he can pick pockets, but in a lot of cases this is also your guy who can talk in court or potentially get you information out of a library. So the rogue kind of is your catch all, but when talking about armor, this is your medium armored, as opposed to your cleric and your fighter, they tend to be heavily armored and your wizard who is lightly armored. So these are the 4 basic classes for Dungeons and Dragons, again the fighter, the wizard, the cleric and the rogue.
