Books, Dice & Other Equipment for RPGs
Hi my name is Barry Osser from North Coast Role Playing in Eureka, California and I’m here today to talk to you about the equipment that you need to role play. Most role playing games have the same group of equipment so this is kind of coverage for all of them. You are going to need the main books, you’re going to need at least one book that probably the game mastering book, and then you’re going to need a collection of other books that whoever is running the game, the game master, the dungeon master, whatever the name is, is going to need to run the adventure or run what you’re doing in that day. In addition to that, you’re going to need dice. Some games have one specific dice, some games will have a collection of different dice, we call them in this world we call them polyhedral dice and there’s a 4, a 6, an 8, a 10, a 12 and a 20 sided dice, there are more. Yes I know all of you who have seen this before are going Ahh there’s more, but those are the main ones you’re going to use and these represent the random generation that you’re doing. If you want to go to hit something, you want to decide whether or not you’re going to hit every time, that’s what the dice are for. In addition to that, it’s going to be up to the game master of the additional things you need as far as character sheets, but you may need to bring one on your own or more on your own or you may need to bring binder paper in case you nor the game master cares to buy character sheets. Or you may have the characters actually presented to you from the game master, but you’re going to need something to work from to identify what it is that you are doing. In addition to that, you generally are going to like to have a nice comfortable setting, playing on your mom’s table in the middle of the afternoon when she’s cooking dinner, probably not the best idea. A nice comfortable place where you’re not going to be interrupted too much is going to be helpful because as a game master for me, I like to set the mood, the beepers go off and the dog starts barking.
