Preparing Ingredients To Cook Potato Pancakes

Hi! I'm Chef Rainer and I am here today with expertvillage.com. Well we've got our potatoes ready and we've got all of our ingredients ready and now we need to mix them all together and get them ready for the frying pan. Well the first thing, we do have the potatoes here so the first thing we are going to do is take our garlic and put our garlic cloves into the garlic press and go ahead and squeeze that into the mixture. Go ahead and take the knife, slice that off and then we will take the second clove. This is going to give it a really nice flavor. So the next thing of course is the onions and we are going to take out grater and we need to use the fine grater on this. We are going to use our onion and we are going to grate the onion. As you can see, this is coming out really really fine and once it gets flat, go ahead and put it on its side. And we don't have to use all of it. We are just going to use maybe about half of it. There we go and you see how fine that is. It just comes out kind of like a paste. We go ahead and put that into our mixture and this is just for flavor. Get most of that out of there and put it in there. So we've got our onion in there now. We can get rid of that. The very next thing we are going to do is put our egg mixture in there. Just beat it up a little bit again. Then pour that in there. Then we are going to put two heaping tablespoons of sour cream in there and that is going to give it that nice tangy flavor in there and of course, some pepper. On this it is according to taste. There is no set amount of pepper or salt that you need to put in there. Just do it according to your own taste. I usually like to put just enough pepper on there just to cover the potatoes. Don't put too much in there because you don't want it too spicy and then the salt. I personally like to use Sea Salt. I just think it has a much better flavor. Be generous, put it in there. And last but not least, we are going to be putting two heaping tablespoons of flour in there and the flour we are basically putting in there is to bind the potatoes so that we can put them together into patties and fry them up in the frying pan. So take your spoon and go ahead and mix that whole mixture together. Basically stir it and then what you want to do is you want to get messy because you really want to get this together. So take your hand and just mash that all together. You want to really mix it together well. Alright, that looks really good. These are going to be great potato pancakes. Alright and that's how we put all the ingredients together to get our potato pancakes ready for frying.
