What is Wienerschnitzel?

Hello! My name is Chef Rainer Wickel and I am coming to you from expertvillage.com. Today we are going to be doing some traditional cooking and the very first thing we are starting out with is a wiener schnitzel. Now a wiener schnitzel is basically a breaded cutlet. Now this can be either veal, pork or even turkey but traditionally it is veal. If you went into any German restaurant and ordered a wiener schnitzel, it would be a breaded veal cutlet. Now me personally I have issues cooking with veal so today we are going to be cooking it with pork. Now basically a schnitzel can be made with pork, veal or even turkey but if you make it with pork it is called a shiner Schnitzel wiener art. So basically wiener art so basically wiener art means the particular way that you make this breaded veal cutlet. Now breaded cutlets actually started out in Italy and this was back in like the 1500-1600's and it was also made in Spain. In about the 1800's, the Austrians ended up making it and called it a wiener schnitzel and it is absolutely delicious. You will find it in every restaurant, on every menu in any restaurant in Germany or in Vienna and that is what a wiener schnitzel is.
