Natural Paints for Environmentally Friendly Interior Decorating

Paints, varnishes and stains can all be made from natural ingredients. Water based paint uses water as the principle solvent, greatly reducing the VOCs and hazards of using paint. In addition, hazardous thinners are not needed for cleanup. Healthy paint options are milk paints and other water based paints made by such companies as safecoat, ozco, aura, envirotec, and ecowise. And look for these safe ingredients in paints. You’re going to look for borax which is a natural mineral. It’s used in casein paints. You’re going to look for beeswax which is a natural moistener. Boric salts which are non-volatile mediums for wood preservation. Glowin which is a natural clay mineral, it’s used as a filler in paints. Citrus turpines which are oils from the orange juice production. And turpine bases or solvents for resins and waxes. And glimmer, which is a natural mineral used as a filler. Thineum dioxide which is a pure white opaque pigment from natural minerals that’s used in paints and white varnishes. Those are ones you’re gonna look for that are safe ingredients to have in your water based paint. Anything that has a VOC of over 100 I would probably avoid.
