How to Teach your Preschooler Letters before Preschool Starts

Hi this is Ann and we’re here today to talk about letters. It’s important to start this process to help the school out in a home setting. It’s a fun and informal way for your child to start learning how to use and identify letters. For example, when you’re reading to your child every evening, you can point out letters in an informal manner in a title or on different pages of a book. Another example is when you’re driving around or going to the market, you can point out letter in different signs within the store, or another example is to take newspapers and look at the cartoon section or different parts of the newspaper and again point out the letters and say hey look, that’s the letter T or that’s the letter U. and it doesn’t have to be done in a sequential manner, it can be done haphazardly and again it’s just showing your child how to identify different letters in a fun and a non-pressured manner. Another thing that I can suggest is to use for example magnetic letters where you can buy these plastic letters, go to your refrigerator and everyday put up a different letter of the alphabet and talk about it and think of words that begin with that letter. For example A for apples, ants, alligators and all kinds of fun things that you can find.
