Potting Mix for Carnivorous Plants

Hi my name is Wes from ExpertVillage.com and in this video segment I’m going to talk to you about potting soil for carnivorous plants. If you want to know more about these plants you can visit us at Equilibriocarnivorousplants.com. so one of the most important things when potting carnivorous plants is using the right kind of soil. Here we have some Pearl Light and some peat moss and the carnivorous plants’ soil is very important because it needs to be poor in nutrients, the natural soil that they grow in is extremely poor in nutrients and if you use any type of fertilizer on you plants it can kill the plant in a matter of days. So here we’re using Pearl Light and you can also use any other sort of non-organic compound, you can also use silica sand. The mixture that we’re going to make here is 50 percent pearl light and 50 percent peat moss, so it’s more or less a rough measurement. Take a few handfuls of pearl lights and a few handfuls of peat moss here, rough sort of visual measurement and then mix the two together. You want to make sure that they two are very well incorporated. Before potting your plants you want to make sure that the soil is nice and moist and this particular soil is perfect for North American Carnivorous plants like the North American Pitcher Plants, Sundews and the Venus Flytrap.
