Hi, I'm Aaron Gregory on behalf of Expert Village. And, we're going to talk about what happens when your car battery dies, how to select a new battery, and how to see what the problem is. Okay, we're going to start removing this battery by disconnecting the terminals which we already went through for cleaning. And, then also disconnecting the battery hold down strap which keeps the battery from moving around or tipping over while your driving over bumps and corners. This battery is held in by a strap that grabs the back edge of the battery and two long bolts that hold it to the bottom of the battery tray. We need to loosen these nuts enough to get that hook on the bottom of the J-bolt out of the hole. And then, this strap and both of those long bolts will come out. And then, the battery should be free. Sometimes hardware around batteries is very rusty and will need to be wire brushed or sprayed with some kind of penetrating oil. You can see that this one has come loose on this side already, and if you lift it, you'll see the J-hook on the bottom of the bolt. Often times, these J-bolts rust right through because of the corrosive environment close to the battery. They're inexpensive and available at any auto parts store. But, the length is important. The treaded rod length at the top is also important. Always be sure to take note of how things come apart so that you can put them back in the right direction. These parts, if they're covered in corrosion, can be neutralized with a baking soda/water mix or wire brushed and painted with a rust preventative paint if you want it to last longer. Now that the battery is loose from the car, let's try lifting it out.
