Staff Block & Spin in Tang Soo Do Martial Arts

This is Kelly and Aaron of South Florida Tang Soo Do, here at Muse Art in Hollywood, Florida. Now we’re going to show you how to use a simple weapon, the staff called a bong in Korean. This is just an extension of your arm which means you’re going to use lots of hip to make it work. I’ve already showed you how to do a low block and now Aaron is going to show you how to do a low block with the staff with your knee and hip. Hip. Hip. Hip. All the basic elements that you saw on the low block are there except that he has the weapon in his hand. Another element of staff work is spinning. This is used for blocking and is also a lot of fun. To do a basic figure 8 spin, if this is your right tip, you’re going to start that down and it’s going to go in a simple figure eight, so start slow and then with practice it gets faster and faster. From there you can go to all kinds of things including where you pass it from hand to hand.
