Overview of the Freestyle Stroke Arm Motion

Hi, I'm Olga and I'm Rotem. We're former professional swimmers and we're here on behalf of Expert Village. Okay, we'll show you the pull first outside of the water and then we'll go in the water and show you how it works inside the water. So place your arm out far in front of you. You bring your hand down close to your body, get it out of the water and back. Now, Rotem is going to show you one more time, inside the water, out and back. Okay, what's important here is you go inside the water, bend your elbow slight. When you finish, finish close to your body. Don't bring the arm too much up, bend in your elbow and bring it back. So it's important to be relaxed, not contract your muscles. Also, when you swim make sure you close your hand, your fingers. Don't open them, because it's a lot more efficient if you close it. Now, Rotem's going to show you the same thing from a slightly different angle. Okay, same thing we showed you before, relaxed hands, close your fingers, take it out of the water. Now with the left hand, when you master the left hand, go on to your left hand and don't put it together before we teach you the next step.
