Mix Wet Ingredients for Baking Challah Bread
Hi I'm Karen for Expert Village now I'm going to poof our yeast and mix our wet ingredients together. First I'm going to warm the water to 110 degrees this is the best temperature to activate the yeast. Okay if you don't have a thermometer to test it you can just put your finger in it, it should feel warm but not hot. We are going to pour 1 1/2 cup into this bowl just approximately, we are going to sprinkle our yeast over it and let this sit for about 5 minutes and it should create a nice foam. Now if the if you come back after 5 minutes and it has not become foamy on the top then the yest is probably old or dead and you would just want to dump that out and start over with new yeast and if it is foamy we would use it in our receipt. This yeast looks good, nice and foamy, you can put that right in to the mixture. Just scrap that all in there. Next we would add our water, I'm going to use the same measuring cup to measure out our oil 1/4 cup of oil. This is a great way to measure out the honey because the oil would sort of oil the measuring cup and then when we put our honey it won't stick so much. I'm going to pour in 1/2 cup of honey and just scrap all that out get it all in there. You see how nice it slipped out because we put the oil in first. I'm going to use the same measuring cup to crack our eggs into. It is good to crack eggs into a separate container to make sure you don't get any egg shells. Okay we would put that into the mixture and would put in our mixing paddle and we would beat that until it is smooth. I'm going to add the salt at this point to this is 1 tablespoon of salt. I'm going to add it in with the liquid so we can dissolve the salt and mix it in real good.
