Finishing The Apple Pie Top
Hi I'm Karen for Expert Village now we are going to finish off the top. We can finish up the top in a couple of different ways lets do some cut outs. We take some of our extra pie crust that we cut off and jsut roll that out and roll it out pretty thin. If you have some cookie cutters you can make some cut outs there. I have a heart shape cookie cutter and a nice autumn leaf cookie cutter and we would just cut those out and make some nice shapes. Okay we would inhered them to the pie with a little of water. Just tap that with water and you could place that right on top of the pie crust. Lets do our autumn leaves okay then we are going to cut vent holes for the pie cause as the apples cook they create alot of steam and you want to release that steam so the pie crust doesn't get to soggy. So this would let the steam to release and then we are going to brush this pie with a little bit of egg wash. Just crack a egg in a bowl and beat it light until it is pretty uniform and brush that all over into your pie. It will give the pie a nice shiny glaze, not to much because you dont want the egg to show. Now I would show you on my other pie that I prepare when you weren't looking, I put a nice apple cut out on it and on this one we are going to brush it with milk and that would give it a nice brown not as glazed as the egg wash it would give it a nice browning color on it. We would go all the way around with that and then I would show you also here a nice thing to sprinkle with sugar and it will give it a nice crispy look. Just sprinkle a little sugar on there.
