Creature Abilities in Magic The Gathering
Welcome back. I’m David Morgan with Gamers Enclave. I am here to explain creature abilities. Namely static abilities. These are abilities that no matter what they are always there on the creature. Here we have the power as you can see it has two static abilities. The first strike; normally in a combat phase the damage is dealt simultaneously attacking and blocking creatures. Whichever has the higher power kills the other one with lesser. In case the first strike, this creature attacks first before the creature that blocking him. Unless that other creature also has first strike, in which case it works normally and simultaneously. Protection works against certain colors and in this case he has protection black and protection from red. That means he cannot be targeted by any red or black spells, be attacked by any red or black creatures and also he cannot be blocked by red or black creatures. Now this does not work with spells that affects globally; like black or red spells that affects multiple creatures not just one target. Now the angel, she also has to static abilities; flying and vigilant. Flying allows her to attack without being blocked by any non-flying creatures. She basically fly’s over and attacks the opponent. Vigilance allows her to attack without tapping which means she can attack and then block the next turn after that and those are static abilities.
