Protecting the Plants when Pressure Washing Your House

Hello, my name is Grady Johnson and I'm a professional painter and today I represent expertvillage.com. Okay, now we're going to talk about protecting our plant life. We've got some nice Azeala's here, we've got a pretty big tree over here and we want to protect these plants from the chemicals that are going to come off of our wall when we pressure wash. Now it's especially important if you plan to use chlorine on the wall, I don't generally do that when I know I'm going to paint, I just pressure wash it with water. But even if you just pressure wash it water, it's a good idea to cover up the plants, because you don't want to get that chalking all over your plants. It never washes off right, it's a nasty feel. Now, when you pressure wash exterior walls next to plant life, I recommend you just use straight water. Try not to ever shoot down on the plants either you will damage them if you do that, that's a lot of pressure and they might not recover. Now, remember the stuff coming off the wall, the paint chips and the chalking, that's going to cause stains and maybe kill your plants so be sure that you cover everything up with either plastic or I just use drop clothes. Plastics, the water will actually get up underneath it and collect, with the drop cloth it'll soak right in. So just get a big drop cloth and then just throw it over your plants, just like I've done with the big tree here, I'm going to do with this little Azeala bush and that way when the stuff comes off the wall, it'll hit the drop instead of getting on the plant. Now remember if you're using chlorine, that's going to kill your plant right away even if it just runs down into it. So be careful with chlorine especially that stuff like vines on the wall and this is how we protect the plants on an exterior wall when we're pressure washing.
