The Scarf Position in SAMBO Martial Arts

On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Stephen Koepfer at New York Combat SAMBO in New York city, and today I'm going to be demonstrating beginning SAMBO. In this clip, we're going to demonstrate the basic scarf position. This is another top control position from wrestling. Basically, it's called scarf because you're around his neck like a scarf. What's most important is that again, like all positions, chest to chest contact. My leg is high up under his shoulder so I can grab my own thigh. I keep his head raised off the ground. If his head can touch the ground, it's much easier for him to bridge and roll me off. I want to keep his head up, one leg here, one leg here. Importantly, my head is low. The lower I am, the lower my center of gravity and the less likely he is to roll me over and reverse me. Tight control, head low.
