What is the Importance of Home school Groups?

Hi, I'm Sharon Wilharm on behalf of expertvillage.com and I'd like to talk about homeschool groups. Now first off when you start homeschooling you're going to be wanting to find other homeschool areas. So how do you do that? Well the easiest way is to do an online search and find your state homeschool group. Every state has a page and they will be able to direct you to the local homeschool groups. Now it may not have all of them but it will at least some of the bigger ones that can get you started and from there you contact them and find out exactly what they're doing and find out if it's something you want to be part of, because each homeschool group has its own personality and its own purpose. Some of them are all about just getting together for field trips, some of them are more involved in co-ops and so you have to decide is this what you want to do? Sometimes you may find yourself in an area that doesn't have a homeschool group and so what do you do then? You start your own, it's no big deal, you just decide on a place and time like a park, somewhere where it's easy for people to meet. You set a date and you start contacting the newspapers, the radio stations. You tell them we're starting a homeschool group, anybody interesting to meet at this place at this time and of course send notices to the library because homeschoolers hangout at the library and that is a great way to meet other homeschoolers. So anytime you're homeschooling and you want to meet other homeschoolers, you can always start your own group if there's not any around you.
