Hi! My name is Rick Van Hoorn and I am here to talk about mountain biking for Expert Village. Okay now we are going to be talking about what you are going to be wearing when you are out for a ride. First and foremost is going to be helmet. Helmets cost anywhere from $20 to $130, $140 or $150. What you will find with the $20 helmets is they are all basically meeting the same safety standards that the $150 helmets are making but it has a lot less vintage. So what happens is the cheaper the helmet, the hotter it is to wear. So you can spend a lot of money, get a great helmet with a lot of ventilation because when you are running out there for a long period of time, that is the kind of helmet you want to have. You can also wear cycling shorts. I like to wear the biker type myself. They are really tight fitting and all cycling shorts have a pad in on the inside which you sit on protecting you from the seat a little bit. There are also baggy shorts; a lot looser fitting and a lot more stylish when you go out in public of course. Something else you want to wear are cycling shoes if you can. Cycling shoes have a really really stiff sole so it's hard to bend them down like that. Really good advantage of that it is transferring more power to the pedal; that's how we go faster and we want to try and beat our friends. Another thing you want to wear are socks. Don't go barefoot in those shoes. You want to wear socks as well. A lot of people wear dark socks because they don't get dirty as fast. Another thing that I don't have with me right now are cycling gloves; full finger or half finger. It doesn't matter. Always wear cycling gloves. it's a great safety. Things to wear if you fall they help your hands to protect them.
