Hi I'm Bill with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com we are here today at a Chapel Ledges at Ashfield, Massachusetts and in this series I'm going to be talking about the basics of moving on rock. In this segment I want to talk about some techniques for climbing on overhanging rock, overhanging rock is going to be involved in some harder climbing, definitely more strenuous, and it is a lot of fun. So the basic of technique that we talked about earlier keeping your weight on your feet, trying to use bone more then muscle are still going to apply here. In order to use those access those strengths you want to hang back on your arms rather then try to pull in and you want to keep your hips close enough to the rock then your weight is on your feet. Even though a lot feels like it is hanging on your fingers. So from here a couple of things to consider if you hang on the same hand and foot your weight is going to tend to swing away from the cliff. If you use the opposite hand and foot then you are balance and you stay here. So opposite hand and foot, hips close to the wall.
