Hi I'm Bill with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com we are here today at a Chapel Ledges at Ashfield, Massachusetts and in this series I'm going to be talking about the basics of moving on rock. Climbing in a crack your hands would be jamming your are going to need your feet to use the crack as well. So your feet can jam in the crack in a similar way by putting my toe into the crack and twisting my foot I create pressure across the crack most which is on the other side of my shoe and that is going to allow me to stand up. Use the crack for a foot hold. Now it may squeeze your foot and be a little uncomfortable and may also be difficult to get out so once I move up on this I need to know which way it when in so if I need to take it out I can reverse the process. Don't panic just undo what you did. You can also jam to your heel to your toe in a bigger crack or stack up your feet in creative ways in still larger cracks. So creating pressure across the crack is the concept and figure out what fits and you would move up.
