Using A Pastry Bag For Baking A Sheet Cake

Hi I'm Karen for Expert Village. Now we are going to prepare our pastry bag. I like to use these disposable bags because they are easier to clean up first you cut the tip off. You could hold the cup length up against the bag to see if it is going to fit. Just put the cupping right inside. The plastic shouldn't go over the top so I'm going to pull it back a little and trim off a little bit more and squeeze that cupping into place. You want to put the cupping in so that the plastic over the thread where the screw is going to go over but not hanging off past the plastic. I have chosen a star tip a simple star tip number 74 and we fit that right over the cupping and then we put the screw over them. Screw that on nice and tight cause we don't want any frosting come up and out of the edge. Now to fold the bag we are just going to turn it inside out, make a little with our hands and we would jsut fill that up with a spatula, getting the frosting down to the bottom the best you can. Fill it up to the top of this edge, let's get as much in there as possible cause we got to go all around the cake. Okay you don't want to fill it much more then that because you have to be able to twist the bag up. When you get it like that you pull it out again and jsut shake that frosting down to the bottom. Now to hold the pastry bag you hold the extra plastic on top, you hold between you finger and your thumb and you are going to push the bag. You are going ot keep pressure with you thumb to keep that bag twisted. To squeeze the frosting out of the bag you are going to use your palm and your fingers and that is going to squeeze the frosting out. Use this hand to guide as you are working.
