Clearing an Area When Painting an Exterior Wall

Hi, my name is Grady Johnson I'm a professional painter and today I'm representing expertvillage.com. Okay now I want to talk a little bit about getting this area ready to paint. Now before we paint any exterior wall, we're going to have to clear this area out. Now if you're painting outside, you will find a lot of times that exterior wall is going to have a lot of plants along it. This one doesn't it's against concrete, but when you run across that situation take a big sheet or a drop cloth lay it over that plant and pull that back from the wall. Sometimes you might even need to tie that down. Before I do anything I got to clean up this area, this is extremely important, when you are painting you're working with a roller pole, which is going to be coming behind you and also you're going to be spreading paint around and getting paint chips all over the place. First we're going to pressure wash, so everything is going to get wet so it's important to get all this things out of the area. Now, you can see that there is a lot of debris here, I got a little bit of everything and if this is underneath me it's going to cause me a little of a bother. So sure you move these completely away from your job site, don't just pull it away from the wall cause then you take the risk of tripping over it when you're working. Remember the less you have to trip over, the quicker you're going to get your job done so move all these movable objects completely away from your job. Now the two things to remember is if it's really big or planted, cover it up a little bit and pull it out of your way so that you can work around it. But if it's small and mobile, just move that on out of there and this is how we clear the area for our wall so that we can paint it.
