Questions & AnswersOn behalf of Expert Village, my name is Craig Morrell. I'm with Landscape Restorations in Miami, Florida. We're here at Palm Hammock Orchid Estate and we're talking about planting, and fertilizing. The title of this video is watering your plants after they've been established. One of the biggest thing you can do for newly established plants is to water them heavily to make sure that the water settles all the little air pockets out. Now, on a little plant like this we might be using as much as 2 or 3 gallons of water per day for the first 30 days. The new roots are going to take a lot of water to get into the soil, and especially with trees that have been dug out of the field and put into your landscape or your home, you really want to make sure that the new roots have plenty of water so that they can get established as quickly as possible. It's a good idea to plant at the beginning of the rainy season and let the rain help you out. But a good soaking of water might be as much as 50, 70, or even 100 gallons for a very large tree. It's very important to make sure what trees and plants are well watered in the first days of planting. Otherwise, they're going to dry out before they ever get a chance to get established and they won't do well for your garden.
