Soap Making Ingredients for Making Homemade Lye Soap

I assembled all of the ingredients we are going to be using. These are our fats and oils. I have olive oil, canola oil and castor oil. We have coconut oil, coconut butter and bees wax. These ingredients are going to be mixed together in the pot. Now after the soap has been mixed, we will be adding some finishing ingredients. Today I am going to be adding a little bit apricot kernel oil, some buttermilk powder and I have ground up some oatmeal in this coffee grinder, very fine. It can be used course too. So these are the ingredients we are going to include afterwards. I want to talk to you for a moment about safety. Lye is a very dangerous substance and it should be handled with a great deal of care and respect. I am going to be wearing goggles over my glasses today. They have side shields and they are going to protect my eyes. I have rubber gloves; Latex gloves will also work that will protect my hands and long sleeves will protect my arms. If I do get lye on my skin, I can use a little bit of vinegar to neutralize it and then immediately I will wash my hands with soap and water. Soap making is not something you want to do around young children and on the day you make soap, you want to make sure your children and pets are away from the work area. Keep them away until you have washed all of your pots and pans too because they will burn your skin. When I mix the lye and distilled water, I am going to do it in a container that I am going to keep solely for this purpose. I am not going to put this container back in my kitchen. Instead I am going to put it in my soap making kit and it will be available next time.
