How to Practice with Props for an Acting Audition

Hi, on behalf of expertvillage.com I'm Lory Wyman from Lori Wyman Casting in North Miami Beach, Florida and today we're going to talk how to prepare for on camera auditions. Props are very important aspect of your audition. However, it is imperative that you practice with your props before the actual audition. I was doing a casting once for a major feature film with an Oscar winning director and an actor came in and he was suppose to be on the telephone, well he didn't bring his own phone, so he looked around my room to see what he can use as a telephone. He picked up a dry erase board eraser, we'll he did this in the middle of his actual audition. So I couldn't stop him to say, "wait a minute that's filthy dirty" so what did he do? He took the eraser and put the dirty part against the palm of his hand. Okay, so at least he wasn't going to put the dry eraser against his face. When he finished the actual audition of that part, he put the eraser down, but then he continued speaking because the whole audition was not over. As he continued speaking he took this hand, which was now was covered with black ink and touched himself here and touched himself here and touched himself here, because as he was talking for whatever reason it was important to him to keep touching his face. Well guess what? By the time his audition finished, his face was covered in black ink. Unfortunately the director and I were laughing so hard that the poor actor didn't get a fair chance at the audition. So make sure that whenever you use a prop, you know what your prop would be before the audition and you practice with it.
