How to Grip the Golf Club to Correct an Over the Top Golf Swing

On behalf of expertvillage.com my name is Ray Boone and I run the Ray Boone Golf Academy at the beautiful Miami Beach Golf Club. Today I'd like to represent to you the topic of the over the top golf swing. We're going to start today showing you how the proper grip should work. The over the top swing is really a common fall and basically it starts by how you grip the club. Most players grip the club in a very weak position and if you look at the grip itself, you see where it says Lamkin on my grip? Most players start with their thumb right down the center of the shaft and when you do that, that's going to leave the golf base open at impact and what that's going to create then is a swing that you're going to want to swing outside and come over the top to pull the ball back on line to the target. It's one of the most common problems that we fight in the golf swing and I'll show you how to fix that. What we're going to do is take the grip and turn the left hand over to the right so that it's right of center rather than in line with the center of the club and what we're going to do then is put the right hand on there and right on top of the club and you're in good shape.
