Hi! My name is Brandon. I'm with expertvillage.com, and today I”m going to show you how to rock climb. Climbing is done in pairs. One person's going to be the climber and one person's going to be the belayer. The belayer is who holds the rope on the bottom of the wall where the climber ascends. It's the belayer's responsibility to catch the climber if they fall. Most gyms do not supply belayers; therefore, you need to get belayed trained yourself, as well as the peron you come in with. If you're by yourself and do not have a partner, it's possible to come in on the popular nights that the gym has and just hook up with someone to belay. Climbers are really friendly, really nice. They're all happy to offer you a ride on any wall you want to get on. So just be a friendly person, and if you can't find a partner to belay, just be open to climbing with someone you've never met before.
