Understand the Importance of a Grigri Belay Device When Rock Climbing

Hi! My name is Brandon. I'm with expertvillage.com, and today I”m going to show you how to rock climb. There's several different types of belay devices on the market. Perhaps the safest is the one I'm holding here. This is called the Petzl Grigri. To use this belay device. It is similar to the one I showed you earlier. You open the plate up, place the rope, climb a rope going up this way, breaking it out this way, and there's also a picture labeled on here so you don't get them confused. Once the rope is in placed, you would close the plate and place the carabiner through the Grigri. The way this belay device works is if a climber will fall, the force of their fall pulls up on this cam and pinches the rope in place. Thus, automatically stopping the climber from falling. While this belay device is more expensive than others, I feel that it's safety is priceless.
