Translating Style in Needlepoint Tapestry
My name is Francie DeMun. I am speaking on behalf of Expert Village. I am a tapestry artist. I have done quite a bit of commission work and that is very interesting because it happens many different ways. People either see my work and say, "oh, I love that but I would like it in different colors" or "I have a couch - Can you do flowers?" or "I have a favorite fish, can you do my fish?" I have done so many things and my answer always is yes, if you will give me artistic freedom. In other words for the fish one, I did the fish but it was my interpretation of the fish which also was in the setting that came up for me. Actually I have never done a piece that wasn’t very happily received but there needs to be flexibility but I am very intrigued and very delighted when people have requests. I have done a whole series of the Orient; I did Asian women. I have done a series on frogs where a woman loved frogs. I had her frogs doing so many different things. So we can talk about that if someone is interested.
