Evaluate Weather Conditions while Hiking

Hi, I’m Kate I’m with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com and we’re going to be talking about hiking today. We’re going to be talking about forecasting and weather. One of the things you should always have your eyes to is the weather. Sometimes you can’t see it because of the canopy cover, sometimes you’re not sure what’s going to happen anyways but it should be on your mind most of the time. Depending on the region of the world that you are there are certain things that you should be aware of happening on a normal basis. If you’re in the canyons, flash floods can be a problem, if you’re in the white mountains, snow can be a problem, there’s always something you need to be aware of. Thunderstorms and weather patterns can move in quickly, so you should be aware of the fact that thunderstorms happen in the afternoon in some places, frost happens in May in other places and there’s always a weather pattern to know about. If you can’t see the sky and the clouds in changing weather you should be able to notice breezes that change and you can always hike to the point where you can see the cloud cover. If you find yourself in a situation you don’t want to be in or you think the weather is turning bad, don’t be sad that you’re leaving your hike, you should get out while you can. It’s always a safety concern with thunderstorms, snow, rain or just cold weather, you want to make sure you’re on top of what’s going on around your environment.
