Hi! I’m Kate with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com. I am going to talk to you about hiking and backpacking. When your multi day of backpacking, defecating in the woods can be a bit of a problem for some people and really easy for other people but there are some certain things you should do each time. When you go out, you are going to have a toilet bag with a shovel with some TP in it and some extra baggies. You are going to be packing out your TP so it is very important to have extra baggies. The shovel is because you can’t just defecate anywhere. You need to actually dig a hole because you are going to be bearing it so nobody steps on it, possibly camp on it. You can understand the problems with that. Whenever I have to go the bathroom in the woods, I dig a hole and I probably like it near a tree because I can use it to just to help myself squat or I can lean against it, whatever you think is best. You want to have a nice area that is secluded but maybe you might see something really beautiful and you have a 5 point rating of your outdoor bathroom experience. So you are going to dig a hole and you are going to squat over it but aiming might be a little bit difficult. Make sure you get it in a hole and if you don’t then you need to use your shovel to get it back in the hole because when you are done you are going to leave it there, cover it all up as if no one was here. You are going to have all of your TP that you used and you are going to put it in a baggie; shove it in there because depending on how many days you might have a lot of TP; you never know. Then you are going to use a second baggie because if this explodes in your backpack, that’s bad day.
