Using Jerk Bait for Fishing: Advanced Angling Techniques
One of the most least used, but most effective type lures while bass fishing is a suspending jerk bait. What we’ve got here is a lucky craft pointer 78 minnow in an olive green color. This bait will dive about 6 feet. When it goes down, it’s diving and wiggling, and wiggling, and wiggling, and when you pause and you stop, this bait will suspend perfectly in the water and stop. As the fish is looking at and they’re chasing it maybe and looking and looking, the minute that thing stops, that’s when their predator instincts come in and they’ll eat this bait. The way to work this bait, it’s all about the pause. You can twitch it really hard, rip, rip, rip, rip, and you need to stop it. Or you can work it really slow, you can just drag them. 1, 2, and it’s still about the pause. 90% of your baits are going to be most effective on the pause and so that’s where 90% of your strikes are going to come is when you stop this bait. Okay, we’ve made our cast out there. What we’re going to be doing is you want to twitch, twitch, twitch and then just stop it. You want to keep the tension on the line. You don’t want to put a lot of slack in there, but you want to keep the line fairly straight so you can feel the bite. You twitch, twitch and you always want to pull down and then point the rod tip back at the bait.
